Bruce Springsteen was honored with the Academy Museum’s Legacy Award on Saturday night (October 18), and he performed a special three-song solo acoustic set at the gala. The Boss opened with his Academy Award-winning 1994 hit, “Streets of Philadelphia” – marking his first performance of the song outside of Philadelphia in nearly 13 years – followed by “Atlantic City” and “Land of Hope and Dreams.” The performance coincided with the upcoming releases of the Springsteen biopic, Deliver Me From Nowhere, and a five-disc reissue of his beloved 1982 album, Nebraska, showcasing his enduring influence on storytelling and culture. The Academy Museum shared an Instagram reel featuring their Legacy Award honoree, captioning the clip, “A masterclass in effortless sophistication — it’s Bruce Springsteen, Patti Scialfa and Martin Scorsese.” Other honorees included Penelope Cruz, Walter Salles, and Bowen Yang, with the SNL comedian missing the taping of the Sabrina Carpenter-hosted episode in order to attend Saturday’s special event.
